PHOTOGRAPHER & GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Biography
My name is Tyler Ashton Walker. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in December 1995 and I have always had a love for documentary photography. At around seven years old, I can recall recognizing many different elements of photography and art without even having a knowledge of them; capturing a moment has always come natural.
My first art class came during my sophomore year of high school, as I was enrolled in Intro to Graphic Design. I quickly fell in love and the love only grew from there. With the next three years centered around my graphic design and photography work, I planned to come to McMurry for a degree in Marketing and Advertisement, but God had other plans.
The art classes here at McMurry were unlike any other, and the religious influence was everywhere. Professors such as Tyson Terry and Jennifer Nichols opened my eyes to new techniques and programs to further my skills. The summer going into my sophomore year, I worked at Butman Methodist Camp and Retreat center. It was here that my photography really excelled as I practiced on visiting campers and churches, as well as on my own during hikes on the grounds. This form of religious documentary photography is the inspiration for my photos, it was at Camp Butman where my desires of becoming a Missionary Photographer came to light.
As my career here at McMurry comes to a close, I plan to continue chasing my desires. I will continue to practice and perfect my photography and graphic design skills and will look for a permeant spot as a church’s full time Missionary Photographer. Hopefully, one day, some of my photos can change the lives of those captured in them, as I plan to give all proceeds from selling photos and art pieces back to the families in need.
